Former Priest Describes His 'Spiritual Journey'

Excerpt from 'Arab News'..

Ali Guatamala, a former priest, came to perform Haj along with 17,000 other U.S. Muslims.

According to a report in Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Severedoo Royes (Guatemala's Christian name) was attracted to Islam after he read the opening verse in the chapter Al-Baqara (The Cow) of the Holy Qur'an.

He said conversion to Islam had changed his whole life. "After graduating from the seminary, I worked as a priest in Queen City, southern United States, and I used to engage in missionary work in prisons," said Guatemala.

In order to improve his missionary skills, Royes started reading books on other religions, including the Holy Qur'an. "It was a turning point of my life," he said.

"When I read the first verse of Chapter Al-Baqara: 'This Book, there is no doubt in it, is a guidance to the pious,' it struck my mind. I pondered about this verse, which gave me the impression that the author was speaking clearly and definitely without having any doubt."

Guatamala said he had found a lot of contradictions in Christianity while studying at the seminary, adding that senior priests were unable to provide satisfactory answers to his questions.

They advised me not to read the Qur'an branding it Satan's work. This increased my interest in the Qur'an and I found that it was not the work of a human being," he said.

Guatemala prayed to God to show him the right path. "One day, when I left home I found a man in thobe going to the mosque for prayer. His name was Salim Baaqeel. I went with him to the mosque and noticed that there are no ceremonial rituals in Muslim prayers as in Christianity... After that I visited the mosque daily for a week," he explained.

"While I was sitting in the mosque, a person came to me and offered to teach me how to do 'wudu' (ablution). I thought that it was a kind of black magic but he explained to me that it was for purification before prayer. On that day I declared my decision to embrace Islam at the mosque." he added.

Ever since he became a Muslim, Guatemala has been facing a lot of pressure from his family, including his sister, who is Jewish. "She used to frighten me by saying that Muslims would kill me... Her attitude changed after she observed positive changes in my life. When I informed her about my plan to perform Haj, she asked me to bring a souvenir from Makkah for her," he said.

Haj was a wonderful experience for Guatamala. "I consider this spiritual journey as the best days in my life. In gave me great pleasure when I learned that the places where I spent during haj had the footprints of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). I cannot explain my strong feelings when I saw the Holy Kaaba for the first time with my naked eyes."

Al-Asheikh calls for the Unity of Muslims

Excerpt from an article in 'arab news'.

Saudi Arabia's Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh lashed out in his Arafat sermon at enemies of the Islamic world for targeting the faith and livelihood of Muslims.

Delivering the annual Haj sermon, he called upon Muslims to hold fast to their faith. "If the Ummah (Islamic Nation) returns to its religion, no force in the world will be able to defeat it," he said.

The enemies have been targeting the Ummah in its faith. They are aiming at its economy and are attempting to annex it to their economic system, he said.

"The Ummah is being targeted... on its values, morals and culture," said the mufti, the Kingdom's top Islamic scholar. However, he said that Muslims had contributed to this by abandoning the fundamentals of their faith.

The mufti warned against the dangers surrounding the Ummah and the efforts of its enemies to pounce on Muslim nations, exploit their wealth and create divisions among them.

Al-Asheikh blasted the enemies of the Ummah for recruiting young Muslims to carry out terrorist attacks."Every Muslim rejects these acts of terrorism," the mufti said and urged Muslims all over the world not to allow people having evil and sick minds to create chaos and confusion in their countries. "We have to tackle this problem by joining hands. This is a dangerous virus that targets truth and creates division and destruction," he added.

Hajj experience

Alhamdulillah, had the opportunity to perform hajj this year.

Decided to choose a more adventurous route for the experience.. Nope, didn't walk the whole way(though there were quite a number of pilgrims who did this)..

Instead, 4 of us travelled to Mina then Arafat then Muzdalifah and back to Mina by scooter. Those 50-60 km/hr ones. It was quite tricky too riding wearing the two pieces of white cloth but alhamdulillah, nothing seriously embarassing happened.

Was it legal? Hm, not really but thats the way it is here, especially during hajj period. By right, we can't go around scooting on highways and main roads, however only for hajj period, the police won't do anything if they see scooters going around for hajj. Hmm, i imagined that if we'd rode like that back home and got caught for the traffic offences made, we'd probably be banned from riding for life!

Thankfully, the journey was smooth sailing mostly. It was good considering the very low cost and time saved from traffic jams. Wouldn't recommend it though.

We faced challenges like searching for water source and toilets, spots to pitch our tents and food. Even when there's toilets, the queue would be a line of 6 or more at peak hours which is most of the period. But of course there are certain periods where its ok. So food management and water intake control is important. But alhamdulillah, we managed without much difficulty and managed to do all the rituals, sunnah or obligatory. I cant imagine how others who backpacked like us managed, some without transport, with thier wives and children.

Currently at Mina sitting by the side of a road with thousand others while typing this using my n70.. SubhanAllah, the wonders of technology. Hm, insya Allah if I have a chance to perform hajj again next year, maybe i'd try a different way by following a travel agency.. No worries but at a hefty price.. the 'finer side' of hajj. Alhamdulillah for this opportunity..

Eid mubarak to all muslims! Allah is Almighty!

Recite and understand

If i were to ask Singaporean muslims in general.. How many of us read the Quran? Hm, ok, maybe most of us do.. Now i ask again, how many of us actually read and understand the Quran and the whole of its contents? Aah, a show of hands here.. A little over there too.. Hm, what telah happened to the other 90+% now..?

Maybe i'm over-exaggarating, but seriously, how many of us can actually understand whatever that we're reciting daily? And as we're not native arabic linguists, then how many of us actually recite, then bother to spend some time pondering upon the translation and the 'tafsir' (explanation) of the verses read?

Reciting everyday with all the beautiful tones and correct tajweed is good but we won't gain much if we don't understand its meanings.

Imagine a 'mat jiwang' listening to his favourite songs.. He'd analyse and ponder upon the lyrics word by word, sentence by sentence and he'd sing it over and over with all his 'heart and soul' interwining the meaning of the lyrics and the melody at the same time.. Some extreme ones even go to the point of tears upon doing this.. *slaps head*

Now, apply this 'technique' to the Quran. We have to realise that The most important knowledge for muslims is the Quran, Allah SWT explained in surah al-Isra' ayat 9 yang bermaksud,

In surah an-Nisa' ayat 82, Allah SWT says, yang bermaksud,

Allah explained in surah al-Isra' ayat 82 yang bermaksud,

The great muslim scholars of the past were successful mainly because they were encouraged and enlightened by the Quran.. It is a guide to success for both here and the hereafter..

Excerpt from a book..

Make good use of your expertise!

Assalaamu'alaikum wr wb.. Pe khabar semua?.. Here's an article that I feel is interesting to be shared and pondered upon entitled, "Manfaatkan kepakaran bukan Memandulkannya" ..Link here!

It's written in Malay by the way, there should be an english edition tapi belum siap kot.. basically the article is about encouraging muslims to make good use of any capabilities they have and be successful and proficient in any area they like as long as it doesn't go against Islamic principles...

key points from article;

- Islam is a religion which acknowledges any proficiency of a person as long as it doesn't go against Islamic principles.

- Examples of Islam being a progressive religion, acknowledging any good attributes and capabilities that a person have that can be useful for the society.

- e.g.The leadership quality and capabilites of Umar ibn Khattab and Khalid al-Walid before Islam were acknowledged and after they reverted to Islam they are benefitted for Islamic cause. An important post should be held by the most capable, not to be restricted to senority

- Deepening knowledge about Islam is not about becoming an "ustaz", Islam needs capable and "soleh" muslims in all areas of expertise.

- Islam acknowledges all forms of knowledge not just restricted to Islamic knowledge. We have to widen our knowledge in all areas for the benefit of ourselves and the Islamic community.

Aite, thats just some of the main points from the article.. bacalah kalo free ya.. ilalliqa'(jumpa lagi) insya-Allah.. Wassalaam (",).

Allah Tidak Jauh, Doa Sentiasa Mustajab

The Dismal Reality of Ahlus Sunnah in Iran

Article by Chairman of the Ahlus Sunnah Association in Iran, Dr. Abdul Rahman Albaloushy. Link here!

quotes from the site:

"Is there a single capital city in the world without a Sunni mosque, with the exception to Tehran -the capital of the Shi'ah-, which has forty Christian churches and a cemetery for the Baha'is. In all, even the minorities have their temples and places of worship and their freedom of worship, yet Ahlus Sunnah are not allowed to build any mosque or cemetery."

"There is no Sunni director in any of the government authorities, ministries, embassies, or local and provincial governments, hospitals or principalities; not even in the lowest government posts anywhere in Iran."

"Whilst we are living in the twentieth century, we find a third of the population of a nation deprived of their most basic rights. Is there any other country on the face of the earth which prevents its people from choosing names like Umar, A'ishah, Hafsah, Abu Bakr, Zubair, or most of the names of the companions amongst the ten foretold of Paradise?"

"The double-faced regime was able, through raising the banner of Islamic unity, to fool many Muslims outside Iran as they ask them to attend their conferences, and transform their way of thinking within a short period of time."

MWTI Forum review...

Alhamdulillah.. had the opportunity to attend the forum on "Gejala Seks Luar Nikah - hukum dan penyelesaiannya dari sudut Islam" on Saturday night, then the seminar on "Imej Islam" on Sunday held at Madrasah Wak Tanjong al-Islamiah (MWTI).

I'm gonna focus on the former. Though the forum is more relaxed and casual event compared to the seminar, it is a serious issue focusing on how to deal with the rising trend of Malay Muslims youths being involved in sex before marriage and extends to the discussion of another rising trend of adultery after marriage.

Dr Juanda Jaya and Dr Asri provided preventive measures and solutions, frequently quoting verses from the Quran and also prophetic traditions(hadith) and elaborating on them while Ustaz Abdul Jalil mainly gave a clear view of the current unhealthy trends that is befalling the Malay Muslim society in Singapore and its causes from a psychological aspect.

It began with the speakers explaining that this phenomena is not new. It has happened ever since before Islam came at an even worse state. Islam has managed to change many wayward behaviours of men and controlled the situation until generations later..

Why is this so?

MAIN CAUSE: (when) The basic akidah(belief) of a Muslim is not strong. If every single Muslim take into consideration his/her relationship with Allah SWT and focuses on doing what pleases Him and hating to do anything that He forbids, there won't be a problem at all.

It is important to address the main issues first. As both Dr Juanda and Dr Asri agreed was to focus on instilling the love for Allah SWT and His messenger (saw) and the fear of nearing what Allah has forbid..

Dr Juanda said to impart the knowledge of Islam as simple as possible.. he quoted part a hadith, whereby Rasulullah saw taught the basics of Islam to young Abdullah ibn Abbas ra "Wahai remaja(kanak2).. kamu jagalah Allah niscaya Allah akan menjaga kamu.."

Dr Asri stressed upon the need to focus on what's more important before tackling other issues. Why must we keep reminding the youths that "zina" is bad, that we shouldn't approach zina but at the same time they still don't practice the five daily prayers, don't fast during ramadhan or understand the concept of ibadah or are confused/clueless about the purpose of life?

Once these main issues are tackled, insya Allah the person will slowly change after he/she has understood the implications of his/her actions during the daily course of life in the Islamic context.

As what Ustaz Abdul Jalil said also, most of the cases involving the break-down of marriages are due to not having the values of Islam being the core of the marriage relationship.

The 2nd solution: At a modern age and time where almost everything is possible at a click of a "mouse" it is so easy to find the sources that can lead to "zina". This is the reality of globalisation and it can't be prevented. Islam acknowledges the needs of humans.

It's natural that humans have sexual needs or a girl likes a guy or vice versa. As Dr Juanda said,"Sesuatu perkara yang melanda remaja..Ustaz, saya tak boleh tengok perempuan, kalo tengok perempuan rasa lain macam je. Apa hukumnya? Jawapan saya kepada budak ni, Kalau lelaki tengok wanita rasa lain macam, awak lelaki sejati.. Tapi Kalo dia macam tak rasa apa-apa..Yang ni kena periksa kat hospital"

Islam recognises feelings and sexual needs but disciplines this by allowing it to happen only after marriage!

But the reality is, while it is so easy to reach the sources that lead to "zina", the current traditional practices make it harder for Muslims to be married. Both Dr Juanda and Dr Asri stressed on the importance of easing the process of marriage. There is little need to prevent or delay the process once a guy is known to be ready, being a good practicing Muslim and having good values.

A good point that was brought up by Dr Juanda was that everyone wants to find somebody who's a good practicing Muslim with good values.

So instead of wanting to find somebody with good iman.. we ourselves have to strive to have such qualities ourselves, eventually insya-Allah, we will find someone with that same trait. We have to strive to be that type of person, instead of doing nothing and hoping for someone with good iman to help us be better.

As quoted by Dr Juanda,(translated) "... perempuan-perempuan yang baik untuk lelaki-lelaki yang baik, dan lelaki-lelaki yang baik untuk perempuan-perempuan yang baik..." [surah an-Nur(24:26)]

In the marriage aspect, couples are reminded to take care of each others' needs. For example, One may have a stronger sexual desire than the other. And if this need is not met, then it there is a higher chance that the "partner in distress" will look for this extra need elsewhere. Dr Asri joked,"Kekadang ada orang nie.. bukan setakat harimau.. hari-hari mauu!?"

The speakers said that while they don't promote poligamy, Islam gives an avenue for example, for guys with these extra needs. Which is better? To control the guy which may lead him to secretly search for an alternative to satisfy his needs in an unlawful manner or to encourage him to seek an alternative which is allowed in Islam by allowing him to marry another?

Of course these measures are only for special cases and are not encouraged. Nobody likes to be a wife of four or two. That is why Islam stresses for couples to keep each other happy and to take care of each others' wants and needs at all times.

Hadiths were mentioned on how romantic the Prophet(saw) was with his wives and how he's the best example of a caring and loving husband to his wives or parent to his children. How the Prophet(saw) reminded wives to dress up for their husbands and also for husbands to look good for their wives at all times! even in the household!

The 3rd solution: Keeping a healthy environment at home. This was brought up by Dr Juanda then elaborated by ustaz Abdul Jalil. This is important as one of the main causes of youths rebelling is the lack of love and care by their parents and the lack of trust and respect is given to them. There is very little "quality family time". Every time they're at home, parents would nag, some even hurl condemning remarks, some parents even quarrel frequently in front of their children. When youths can't find peace and happiness at home, they will go outside and most turn to their friends instead in search of these traits.

4th solution: To keep oneself busy with time well spent on meaningful activities.

Dr Juanda quoted a hadith,"Dua nikmat yang manusia mudah tertipu yaitu, kesihatan dan masa lapang.."

And he continued,"Masa lapang adalah fitnah yang amat besar kepada manusia..bagaimana kita memanfaatkan masa lapang?"

then quoted a saying,"Orang yang sibuk, tidak akan disibukkan.."..and advised "kalau kita ada masa kosong..isikan masa kosong itu dengan perkara yang bermanfaat kalau tidak, maka akan datang perkara yang bermaksiat.. dan inilah yang banyak berlaku kepada generasi muda kita.." which is so true..

As the Arabic saying goes;

5th solution: Don't ever try to test our faith (iman)! Ouu.. saja je (mendekati apa bentuk zina pon) nak test iman aku kuat ke tak.. don't ever do that. Even when a person is a good Muslim, it does not guarantee how he/she behaves when overcome by lust and sexual desires.

As Dr Asri said,"ustaz tak ustaz, lebai tak lebai, Mufti tak Mufti...dalam hal nafsu nie kalau tak jaga, semua sama!"

We must strive to stay away from what may lead to zina. For example, freely mixing with those who are not of our muhrim. It doesn't mean that we cant even interact but do it only when there is a need to.. Even with our close relatives like cousins or uncles and aunties.. always take care of our eyes from roaming and stay alert of what possibly may lead to flirting. Keep our activities and behaviours in check.

Dr Asri also gave a reality check on this summing up,"Kalo anak-anak kita tu, solatnya terjaga, menjauhi perkara yang berkaitan dengan dosa-dosa besar, jaga perhubungan dengan yang bukan muhrim..kita bagi "A" kat dia. Again, he reiterated the importance of focusing on tackling big issues that we have before we tackle the smaller ones.

There was one important point that he brought up. No matter what, it is important by the age of 40 we should control our unnecessary worldly desires and revert more to healthier, Islamic activities. He proposed that we supplicate(doa) and renew our taubah at the age of 40 or even at any age for that matter as what is taught in the Quran..

(terjemahannya)...

Hmm, for now, this is some of what I've gathered from the forum to be shared. I hope that more of such forums involving speakers with such personality, credentials and credability will continue for many years to come, insya-Allah. Do leave comments or thoughts if any..

(al-Ahzaab: 32)

Allah SWT knows best.

Semakin berisi semakin merunduk

Salaam, untuk renungan bersama.. for full article Link Here!

Dr Al-Qaradhawi Menangis, Tak Mau Disebut Sebagai Imam

excerpt from article;

Ibarat padi, semakin berisi semakin merunduk. Seperti itulah sikap seorang ulama.

” (An Naml: 22)

Something to ponder..

Pemahaman salafus soleh... (note: kecuali Shiekh Abdul Qadir al Jilani yang beraqidah Ahlu Sunnah, mengikuti jalan Salafus Shalih)

Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Isma'el al-Ash'ari (874- 936)

was a Muslim Arab theologian and the founder of the Ash'ari school of early Muslim philosophy.

"At the end of his life, he repented from Kalam and became one of the pupils of Imam Ahmad. He changed his view regarding most things and denounced Kalam (reference: Al-Ibana)."

Imam al-Ghazali (1058-1111)

(Majmu' Fataawa, 4/71)

Kata Ibn Taimiyah : (وإن كان بعد ذلك رجع إلى طريقة أهل الحديث وصنف إلجام العوام عن علم الكلام ) 'Selepas itu beliau telah kembali ke jalan Ahli hadith, dan telah menulis kitab iljam al-awwaam 'an ilmil Kalam' (Majmu' Fataawa, 4/72).

Syeikh Abdul Qadir Al Jailani (1077- 1166)

Beliau adalah seorang ‘alim. Beraqidah Ahlu Sunnah, mengikuti jalan Salafush Shalih. Dikenal banyak memiliki karamah-karamah.

IlmuNya meliputi segala sesuatu.” (At Tashawwuf Fii Mizanil Bahtsi Wat Tahqiq, hal. 515). ( At Tashawwuf Fii Mizanil Bahtsi Wat Tahqiq, hal. 516).

Imam Adz Dzahabi menyebutkan biografi Syeikh Abdul Qadir Al Jailani dalam Siyar A’lamin Nubala..

(At Tashawwuf Fii Mizanil Bahtsi Wat Tahqiq, hal. 509, karya Syeikh Abdul Qadir bin Habibullah As Sindi, Penerbit Darul Manar, Cet. Wallahu a’lam bishshawwab.

Rasyid Ridha (1865-1935)

...How often do we do it in all of our concerns?

Supplication for seeking guidance in forming a decision or choosing a proper course of action..

(al-Bukharee 7/162) On the authority of Jaabir Ibn 'Abdullah (radiAllahu anhu), he said: 'The Prophet (salAllahu 'alaihi wasallam) would instruct us to pray for guidance in all of our concerns, just as he would teach us a chapter from the Qur'an. He (s.a.w) would say 'If any of you intends to undertake a matter then let him pray two supererogatory units (two rak'ah nafilah) of prayer and after which he should supplicate (translated):

'O Allah, I seek Your counsel by Your knowledge and by Your power I seek strength and I ask You from Your immense favour, for verily You are able while I am not and verily You know while I do not and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if You know this affair -and here he mentions his need- to be good for me in relation to my religion, my life, and end, then decree and facilitate it for me, and bless me with it, and if You know this affair to be ill for me towards my religion, my life, and end, then remove it from me and remove me from it, and decree for me what is good wherever it be and make me satisfied with such.'

One who seeks guidance from his Creator and consults his fellow believers and then remains firm in his resolve does not regret, for Allah has said (translated):

'...and consult them in the affair. Then when you have taken a decision, put your trust in Allah..'
('Ali Imran 3:159)

Agama itu mudah..

Mudahkan Pendekatan Islam, Jangan Eksklusifkannya
oleh Dr MAZA (for the full article Link Here!)

(Surah al-Nisaa’: 28).

something to ponder..

Just a quote from this book "Ar-Raheequl-Makhtum", The Sealed Nectar, a biography of the Noble Prophet(s.a.w) pg 684 to refute the radical and extreme views of terrorists.

Quote from book during Dhul-Qa'dah, 6 A.H. about the Muslims' efforts under the leadership of Prophet Muhammad(s.a.w) to propagate Islam in the Arabian Peninsula bearing in mind, during that period, the Arab idolaters were claiming religious leadership and were always the war instigators..

"The Muslims did not have in mind to seize people's property or kill them through bloody wars, nor did they ever think or using any compulsive approaches in their efforts to propagate Islam, on the contrary, their sole target was to provide an atmosphere of freedom in ideology or religion:

"Then whosoever wills, let him believe, and whosoever wills, let him disbelieve" [al-Kahfi 18:29]

Reposted: Who Hijacked Islam?

From my own experiences when interacting/joking around with friends or acquaintances, it dawned upon me that many have been taken by some media's and terrorists' portrayal of Islam. Quite a large number already made up their minds about what Islam is all about, just by reading articles, browsing the Internet or watching the news, without really delving into any books on Islam. The peaceful, beautiful religion that Islam teaches have been tarnished.

Nowadays, no thanks to these kind of propaganda, sometimes when people think about Islam, the first thought that comes to mind is either/or all of these; tough-looking bearded man carrying guns, bombs, hijackers, suicide bombers. In short, Islam and Muslims have been stereotyped. People think that Terrorism = Islam or comes from Islam. The true FACT is that, there is NO TERRORISM in Islam's dictionary.

Something to ponder.. there are more innocent lives lost for nothing, being used for meaningless wars, killed and tortured by some world leaders.. which are similar to the terrorists.. but have been going on for years and years. They even destroy people's homes and pollute the environment!? Why aren't these people on the spotlight all the time? Who controls the media? Go figure..

Another thing to add.. dear Muslim brothers and sisters.. please do not..NEVER ever sympathize with these terrorists. Yes they do portray Islam as their cause for whatever they're trying to achieve. But the fact is that they are just wolf in sheep's clothing.

Suicide bombing? Killing of innocent lives? Inciting hatred and enmity? Propagating that all non-Muslims are our enemies? Taking paragraph's from the hadith and Quran out of context and twisting their true meanings? What is this?! This is not Islam..

I don't recognise the agenda they are propagating, CLAIMING that its for Islam.. its just for their own selfish needs..

Go find out in books, for example books on our Prophet s.a.w [I recommend "The Sealed Nectar" (Ar-Raheequl-Makhtum) a biography on our Noble Prophet s.a.w by Safiur Rahman Al-Mubarakpuri]

go find out, you'll be amazed at the stark contrast between the "terrorist's version of Islam", "some media's version of Islam" and "the true Islam itself"...if a good-natured typical ah beng sincerely does this, upon discovering the facts, he will probably say,"WHaa!! she-mo?!!..ayy?!! how come ah!!? Islam not like that leyy..haiyaa..bassketball ah this telolistss.." (okay, maybe i'm exaggerating here..ah beng not like that hor, chill uh (",))

Anyway if you're free, do watch this video by bro Ali, an American revert(convert) entitled,"Who hijacked ISLAM?"

Komik

Something that I wrote in jenggo.blogspot.com trying to narrate his comic.. with some improvisation..opened to all to mengulas komiknya..bro pinjam gambar eh, lagi visual..takut copyright infringement lak.. lukisan dan seni oleh Bro Hafiz Jenggo (",)

Bro Penasihat: Haah! ko suka bdak Siti tuh? Kiuute?! Hmm, mmg cute pon..

Nak buat ape lepas nie?!..alaa, kesiann..

Oklah, abg nie kekadang macm korang jugak jangan kata siti je..siti nurhaliza pon abg suka, hmph nasib baik aku takde misai.. tapi dalam hal nie kita sebagai org muslim terbatas pada syariat/hukum-hukum Islam..

Suka tu okayy..mmg biasa lah benda tuu.. Islam nie tak lah melarang seseorang tu suka..nak buat mcm mana kan, tanda seorang manusia, sifat semulajadi.. baguslah korang takde tabiat menyeleweng suka sesama jenis plak.. tandanya.. masaalah tuu..

Tapi Islam melarang apabila kita bertindak atas sifat suka tuh..Kluar tengok movie, dating, calling-calling 24 jam..haah yg tuh agama larang..

Kata Pengantar

Oleh:

Prof. Dr. Abdulfatah Haron Ibrahim

(Panel Akidah JAKIM)

Pertama: Zaman murni, iaitu zaman Sahabat RA, Tabi’in dan Tabi’ At-Tabi’in.

Excerpt from this book, "Siapakah Ahli Sunnah yang sebenar" by Dr Azwira Abdul Aziz link here --> Click!

Celakalah kamu wahai umat (Nabi) Muhammad! Alangkah cepatnya kebinasaan kamu, para Sahabat Nabi Shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam masih ramai, baju Baginda inipun masih belum hancur dan bekas makanannya pun belum pecah.

Maksudnya: “Demi Allah wahai Abu ‘Abd Ar-Rahman!

Muslim Ibn Al-Hajjaj, Sahih Muslim, Dar Ihya’ At-Turath Al-’Arabiyy, Beirut, 1991, No: 1063, 1064 dan 1066]. Demi Allah!

excerpt from article;

(to read more click on link above)

Hak Wanita: Antara Hukum Tuhan dan Pelaksanaan Insan

article from drmaza.blogspot.com...Click Here!

excerpt from article;

(Wahidudin Khan, Women Between Islam and Western Society, hlm. 46.)

Namun kedatangan Nabi s.a.w. adalah rahmat bagi wanita. Baginda telah membela dan mempertahankan hak mereka... (to read more click on link above)

Sikap melampau dlm bermazhab

Salaam.. Its quite often when topics such as this is put on the table, muslims tend to turn away and say,"Naah..won't get involved in this".. "Small stuff..pecahkan umat je"

Is it true?

Hm, well this is my opinion, and I may be wrong so pls correct me if I am.. I feel that when we make ourselves exclusive to one mazhab, that is the cause for disunity in the ummah in addition to closure of knowledge. "Oh kita nie mazhab syafi'i.. tak boleh blajar lain2 mazhab.. mazhab lain2 tuh betol juga..tapi kalo syafi'i ikut syafi'i je sudah laa.."

Have we ever thought about that? Why must we put total trust in anyone who's called an ustaz without knowing his/her study background or assuming that an ustaz is never wrong? When we only think inwards in our own circle, doesn't that stop the mind from progressing?

There's nothing in al-Quran or hadith that said those in the asian countries are automatically mazhab syafi'i.. we are mazhab syafi'i because we follow what our parents follow and the majority of muslims in Singapore are of mazhab syafi'i.

But in the end, when we leave this world.. we are the ones accountable for our own actions.. we won't be asked, which mazhab are you from? and we won't be judged according to what mazhab we're in.

Even our great Imam Syafi'e says..Lets ponder upon the words of Imam as-Syafi'e(translated):

'Pada suatu hari Imam asy-Syafie berkata kepada muridnya yang bernama ar-Rabi',"Wahai Abu Ishak, janganlah engkau bertaqlid kepadaku dalam tiap-tiap perkara yang aku katakan, fikirlah benar-benar demi untuk kebaikan dirimu sendiri, kerana ia adalah dari urusan agama." taken from- "Riwayat hidup 4 Imam Mazhab"(207) by Tarikuddin Bin Haji Hassan.

(my own translation in English, pls correct me if I err) "Imam asy-Syafie said to one of his students named ar-Rabi',"Abu Ishak, don't you put all your trust in me and believe in everything that I say, think wisely and truthfully for your own good, because this is regarding the matters of religion."

"Every word that I say and if it is found from what is sahih(agreed upon most or all scholars) that is said to have come from RasullulLah which is against my opinion, then that(Prophet's s.a.w Hadeeth) is to be placed first and foremost, don't you follow mine" [i.e. dont follow him in his opinions which is not in accordance to RasululLah s.a.w. sunnah]

So, what is the best way to be sure? In addition to attending ceramahs, find out for yourselves through books and other ustaz.. keep an open mind with a good purpose(niat) of uniting the ummah, strengthening the ummah and to expand our knowledge for ourselves and Allah SWT.

Allah SWT knows best.

Never succumb to people's whims

Article from islamonline.net by Harun Yahya, a turkish muslim thinker.. to read the whole article Click Here!

Excerpt from article;

One of the most important characteristics frequently mentioned with regard to Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Qur'an, is that he only practiced what Almighty Allah revealed and asked of him, with no concern about what others might think. Important figures and members of other religions at the time wanted him to impose rules that would benefit them. Although these people were of greater power and numbers, the Prophet was very careful about abiding by Allah's commandments and the Qur'an. Allah says,

[When Our clear verses are recited to them, those who do not expect to meet Us say, "Bring a Qur'an other than this one or change it." Say: "It is not for me [Muhammad] to change it of my own accord. I follow nothing except what is revealed to me. I fear, were I to disobey my Lord, the torment of a Dreadful Day." Say: "Had Allah so wished, I would not have recited it to you nor would He have made it known to you. I lived among you for many years before it came. Will you not use your intellect?"](Yunus 10:15-16)

Boleh Berpolitik, Tapi Jangan Gila Politik

Article from utusanmalaysia online.. to read the whole article Click Here!

Excerpt from article;

Korbankan 'Melayu' demi Islam?

Artikel menarik dari saifulislam.com Click Here!

excerpt from article;

Maka janganlah dibebankan Melayu atas nama Islam, kerana bukan Melayu punca kelemahan Islam.

Cerita tahayul.. make believe story

Received this in my mail the other day...

Ceritanya berlaku kat hospital Makkah.

Subhanallah. Nauzubillah....

Replied the mail with this..

Salaam pps, just wanna say something in regards to this. All we know is that there's this weird youtube vid accompanied by the msg.

1) How do we know the story is fact?

Just by joking ard like that in Makkah that and poof! your baby turns into a snake like creature.

2) Its illogical. And Islam doesn't teach such things.
3) These kind of stories only confuse muslims. They will think," Oh, I better be careful with my mouth in Makkah, magical things have happened."
4) Muslims believing this will be the laughing stock of non-muslims, especially those anti muslims.
5) Non-muslims will think,"Hmm, Islam is a dangerous religion... not only there are terrorist nowadays, but when you say the wrong things, God will punish you!"

So seriously.. there's no such thing. There are lots of misconception in Islam and this is one of them. Look up the biography of our Prophet s.a.w. and look for stories such as this. THERE'S NONE. When he prayed for the destruction of Makkan pagans/infidels, it didn't happen on the spot/magically! He himself had to set out to numerous battles to achieve this and even got badly injured (Battle of Uhud) when the infidels came trying to finish off Islam.

Why does these kind of stories surface ONLY in this modern age? Hm, Allah SWT knows best.

Something to ponder..

Petikan dari drmaza.blogspot.com..

Dalam Raudah al-Muhibbin Ibn al-Qayyim menyebut: “Syeikh kami (Ibn Taimiyyah) menceritakan kepadaku: “Apabila aku sakit, tabib menyatakan kepadaku: “Sesungguhnya mentelaahmu dan cakapmu dalam ilmu pengetahuan menambahkan sakitmu”. Jawabku: “Sesungguhnya aku tidak sabar untuk itu. Aku ingin menilai pandanganmu dengan ilmu perubatanmu; tidakkah jiwa apabila ia gembira dan suka maka tabiatnya menjadi kuat dan menolak penyakit?”. Jawab dia: “Ya”.

short and simple..

Hmm, I came across some short and simple hadiths. Wanna know a remedy for keeping your diet in check apart from exercising? Just hold on to the words of this hadith (prophetic tradition) tightly..

translated : We (muslims) are a nation which do not eat unless we're hungry and when we eat, never till we're full.

Basically, just don't keep feeding yourself 24/7 and eat as if you want to fill up every single space in your body. Short, simple and effective, insya-Allah.

bloghop

Been a while since I had the opportunity to catch Dr Asri's vids on youtube. Saw this one while bloghopping at khairusown.blogspot.com, a friend of mine. Yeah, cant deny that I'm a staunch supporter of him for most of his views and his stand. Upholding the sunnah. Striving for the ummah to follow the way of Prophet Muhammad(peace and blessings be upon him).

It's disheartening to find on youtube and the net forums, of muslims debating unnecessarily about some of his views. Especially when one starts to enkindle the fire of enmity and hatred, using abusive and disrespectful comments and roping in others into the bandwagon. It leads to nothing but even more problems and disunity.

Dari manakah asal usul gelaran Wahhabi?

I decided to re-post this article. I've encountered quite a number of experiences such as this..

"Hey wan, you're heading to Makkah? Careful ok..the people there are all Wahabbi!"

"Hey, when you study there, remember not to follow other mazhabs(school of thought)..remain in your own mazhab..we must remember that we are from the Syafi'e mazhab"

"Salafis and Wahhabis are the same!? Be careful of them!?"

Hmm, I felt like asking back, well what is Wahhabi? Where did you get the facts? Are you saying that all in Makkah have diverted from the right path? That only the muslims in Singapore or asia or whoever follows Mazhab Syafi'i is in the right path? How do we know that we're in the right path?

But I see no end in the discussion if I were to ask them back there and then. Their minds are set that "everyone in Makkah or Madinah" are Wahhabi" or "all salafis are the same as wahhabi".

If you say that all in Makkah are Wahhabi, then how can you follow the Imam there during solat when you go there for Hajj or Umrah when you don't agree with them? You're implying that the everyone including all the well-knowm Imams there are wahhabi.

How is it that they have diverted from the true path when all that they are practicing are from al-Quran, as-sunnah and the ways of salafus-soleh(prophets' trusted companions)?

Which is just the same as what mazhab syafi'e or even the other mazhabs practice?

Lets ponder upon the words of Imam as-Syafi'e(translated):

- "Riwayat hidup 4 Imam Mazhab"(207) by Tarikuddin Bin Haji Hassan.

(my own translation in English, pls correct me if I err) "Imam asy-Syafie said to one of his students named ar-Rabi',"Abu Ishak, don't you put all your trust in me and believe in everything that I say, think wisely and truthfully for your own good, because this is regarding the matters of religion."

"Every word that I say and if it is found from what is sahih(agreed upon most or all scholars) that is said to have come from RasullulLah which is against my opinion, then that(Prophet's s.a.w Hadeeth) is to be placed first and foremost, don't you follow mine" [i.e. dont follow him in his opinions which is not in accordance to RasululLah s.a.w. sunnah]

I advise myself and hopefully others to please do your homework because whatever that we believe and say, we are the ones responsible for it.. in the end, we are the ones who are going to face Allah Almighty, not your friends or ustaz or tok guru or anybody else.. please read the following article also for a info about where this wahhabi phenomenon came from. And Allah Almighty knows best. May we all be shown to the true and right path, insya-Allah...Ameen.

p.s. I forgive anyone who after reading this says or thinks.."Laa, dah lah tuh..wan dah terpengaruh dahh..dah jadi wahhabi"..."Thats it lah, wan have been influenced.. he's now a wahhabi"

Excerpt from this book.. "Siapakah Ahli Sunnah yang sebenar" by Dr Azwira Abdul Aziz link here --> Click!

Kedua-dua puak Khawarij ini muncul lama sebelum kemunculan gerakan dakwah islah Muhammad Ibn ‘Abd Al-Wahhab [Muhammad ibn Sa’ad Ash-Shuwai’ir, Tashih Khata’ Tarikhi Haula Al-Wahhabiyyah, 1413H, Hal: 4, Dalam Prof. Nasir Ibn ‘Abd Al-Karim Al-’Aql, Islamiyyah La Wahhabiyyah, Dar Kunuz Isybiliya, Riyadh, Arab Saudi, 2004, Hal: 36]

Wala Haula Wala Quwwata Illa Billah.

Came across this at Islamonline.net.. to read more, click the link below..

Rabi'a Frank is a 31-year-old Dutch woman who converted to Islam in 1994. Her interest in Islam first began out of a desire to better learn the culture of her Moroccan boyfriend. Library books on Morocco led to library books on Islam. When she first read the Qur'an in Dutch translation, it touched her heart immediately.

Wearing hijab, she took years to find her own style. Then she reached a point where she began to consider wearing niqab. She was attracted to niqab because for her, it was a way to express more love for Allah. Now she is one of approximately 50 women in the Netherlands to do so.

If only I could go back

Came across this article at islamonline.net. The thoughts and experience of a social worker for youths from USA.

I had an unfortunate(hm, maybe fortunate though) experience of meeting SOME(not all uh) muslims "youth" social workers back home whose thoughts were something like this,"Boy girl relationships are so common nowadays, so we must adapt to the changing trend and leave it as it is...what we should do is keep reminding them not to stray to pre-marital sex"

I heard this during an usrah.. I tried to say," yes reminding not to stray to pre-marital sex is good but we must keep working to remind them what is from the al-Quran and sunnah..there is no such thing as pre-marital relationships..BGR relationships is the cause for pre-marital sex.. we must promote healthy marital reationships!" However, the former comments were more supported rather than the latter at that point of time.

Well hopefully those "some" people read this...I pray and hope that they realise somehow. Article is from islamonline.netLink here!.

If Only I Could Go Back
By Fatin Khairallah

"I wish I could, I wish I could. If only I could go back in time and rethink before committing that terrible act. I have sinned. What have I done! No one will ever accept me again."

This is what repeats itself over and over in the mind of youths who have indulged in the faded pleasure of having a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. As much as we warn youths about what these relationships will lead to, the only whispers they seem to hear are those of Satan glamorizing and beautifying the sinful acts. Little do they know that committing these acts will later destroy their peace of mind and perhaps their lives.

Many youths seem to live in total darkness of the fact that Allah Almighty made this kind of relationship haram for our own good and protection. However, unfortunately, our souls sometimes cling to desires and chase after the pleasures of this worldly life, leaving us with unclear vision and susceptible to being led astray.

Why do we allow this to happen? Why is it hard to understand that Satan is in control of our soul only by complete permission from us? It would save us from so much pain and turmoil if we could only think of the consequences of sinful behavior. If only we took the time to think, we would steer a course to success. We should not forget the reminders that Allah the Almighty gives us, and that He is always watching. We should also remember that the outcome of sinful behavior is always destructive.

Pregnancies outside of marriage are on the rise within our very own Muslim communities. Yet many Muslims prefer to live in denial, overlooking these tragedies that are consuming the lives of our youth. Many feel that this could never happen to Muslims because, according to them, the mere label of being Muslim is protection enough.

This is the heart of the problem. What leads our youth to fall prey to their desires and find themselves involved in dating relationships just to be known as "cool"? Where are the parents and community members to provide them with halal alternatives or to show them the beauty of the Islamic lifestyle for people their age? We need a solution.

Yes, we can keep saying to ourselves "this could have been avoided, why did it have to happen?" But now what do we do for those who have already got involved in this kind of relationship? Do we shut them in the dark, shun them from society, allow them to linger and mope in their sorrow? From my experience as a social worker, I see that most imams and Muslim community leaders today do not even want to be bothered with these situations. We social workers have even been advised not to handle these issues because they fall under Islamic jurisprudence and we should stay away. Even though people say this, they offer no temporary or final solutions. So where do we turn and to whom?

This is another tragedy and hardship for teens, especially for those who want to get help. They long for an avenue toward healing, toward repentance and acceptance in society. However, when their Muslim brothers and sisters do not even want to speak to them or about them, they feel rejected and this may be the very thing that forces them to delve into greater sin.

Allah Almighty's mercy is endless, so we have to remember that we will be held accountable for keeping these youths in the dark by failing to remind them that the door of repentance is open. Are we that hard-hearted that we cannot even find it in our hearts to show some compassion and mercy toward them when we know our Lord Whose names include Ar-Rahman and Ar-Rahim? Many of these youths were unaware, having never been given the proper upbringing to take responsibility for their actions and to beware of the sinful paths surrounding them.

Now that they know, now that they have learned the hard way, it is our job to help bring them back to Allah Almighty: to teach them about repentance and provide them with information about Islam; to show them the path no one ever showed or even offered them — the path of worship of Allah Almighty and life lived in accordance with the Qur'an and Sunnah.

In sha' Allah, they will taste the sweetness of faith that their hearts longed for so much earlier in life. However, for this we need parents, teachers, and especially Muslim community members to fully support social services and Islamic education for these youths. These resources are now openly available for our youth. There are even social services just for Muslim teens.

Most importantly, we must educate our youth and our parents about the realities that surround us. Without awareness, there can be no prevention. Through Islamic education — increasing awareness of the problematic lifestyles of today's average youth, learning about solutions and alternatives choices — we can protect and strengthen ourselves.

May Allah Almighty protect all our youth from sins and the whispers of Satan, and may He raise our youth to be righteous leaders of our Ummah as guides to the straight path. Ameen.
